FROM OHIO TO ALABAMA: PLAY GAP PARTNERS WITH THE MOXIE LEAGUE TO EXPAND OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN IN SPORTS

June 29, 2025

Play Gap, a nonprofit organization committed to increasing access and equity in sports for adult women, announces their latest partnership with The Moxie League, an Alabama-based basketball and flag football program for girls and women. This collaboration aims to raise awareness for the ways that women of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels can get involved in sports and reclaim their athletic identity.

Play Gap’s founders, Elise Vue and Barbara Anthony, live in Cleveland, Ohio and met Morgan Crawford, years ago through her Ohio programming, at the time known as Next Level Moxie.

A former collegiate basketball player and coach, Crawford moved to Mobile, Alabama fulltime and started The Moxie League in 2022 with the mission “to inspire the next generation of female athletes by fostering a community of strength, resilience, and mutual support.” Crawford’s coaching philosophy is infused with mentorship and confidence-building to empower girls and women on and off the court. Her work was even recognized at ESPN’s Women’s Summit in 2024 when she was awarded the “Everyday Hero” Award.

Currently serving around 80 girls and women, the Moxie League kicks off their 4th season this spring. Anthony stated, “We were so excited to reconnect with Morgan and see how her programming has developed over the years in Mobile. Just as she has transitioned her outreach from Ohio to Alabama to serve girls and women, Play Gap looks forward to growing our connectivity there as well. This partnership is just the beginning of our efforts to build a stronger network of women in athletics.”

Together, both organizations will continue to champion women in sports, as they believe in the power of sports to transform not just athletes’ lives, but entire communities.
